Old Truck...cartoon style!!!

This cake was made to replicate a truck from the '30's.  It was for a special Grandpa's birthday!
The cake is completely edible and is a white with raspberry filling covered in fondant.  My favourite detail is the wood panels on the back, they add to the character!!!
The "standard" birth date license plate, always fun to add as a finishing touch!!!

1967 Chrysler Newport

This gold 1967 Chrysler Newport was made for a special birthday for my cousin!  In researching this car a bit, it became clear that it is a huge car, a real "boat"!!  Getting it to scale and getting the squared corners was a bit of a challenge, but you get the idea!  Once again, had fun with the details, right down to the whitewalls!

Adding the birthday person's birth date somewhere on the cake is a little detail I like to incorporate to make it even more personal!  Adding it to a licence plate is pretty well standard for any type of vehicle!
This was a chocolate cake filled and covered in buttercream and finished in gold fondant.

Power Cheerleader Cupcakes!

These chocolate cupcakes with Oreo filling were made to celebrate the birthday of an 11 year old power cheerleader!

The "V" represents the team name and all of the decorations incorporated the team colours.

The birthday girl requested headphones on a couple of the cupcakes.  I made a few and I think they are my favourite part, along with the cute polka dot liners (love those polka dots)!!!

Welcome Sparkle!

I was honoured to make the cake for my lovely cousin's baby shower!  It was a diaper themed shower, so a diaper bag seemed like a good idea!  I truly enjoyed making this one, especially when I realized that it was going to work!
The cake was entirely edible, including this cute little teddy bear made out of fondant.  It was a 4 tiered chocolate and white, covered in buttercream and fondant.  I used a quilting technique, which I really like to incorporate for a baby shower cake.  I used the same tool to add stitching to the strap.

In case you're wondering, Sparkle is the nickname the baby affectionately received way back when!  Can't wait to meet you Sparkle Harris!!!

Happy Birthday Joey!

My mother-in-law recently celebrated a special
birthday and I was asked to make cupcakes.  No specifics were made regarding the cupcakes, so I decided to go with chocolate topped with a chocolate buttercream swirl...usually a safe bet!

I added a bit of pink glitter to match the liners and decided that this would be a great opportunity to "share" some of my children's haul of Halloween candy!  I was pleasantly surprised to see the colour theme of pink and green when I arrived at the party!

Down on the Farm!

I loved creating this one and putting it all together!  Two year old Malia was having a farmyard themed party and I was asked to make a cake to fit the theme!  I was happy to hear how much the birthday girl liked it!
As with other cakes I've done, I got a little carried away with the details, but they're what make it so fun and give the cake a bit of character! I was also happy to find the bit of gingham ribbon I'd hoped I still had, it added the finishing touch!

The only criteria for this cake was that it have a barn, pigs rolling in the mud, ducks swimming in the pond and Malia's name and age.

This cake is completely edible.  The bottom tier and the barn were both chocolate cake, while the top tier was white.  All barnyard animals and other details were made of fondant.

Baby Shower Cake Pops!

Cake pops for a shower to welcome a baby girl, something I'm not very familiar with!  They were half chocolate and half lemon, yum!

Bobcat for a Birthday Boy!

This cute cake was made for a little guy who loves construction vehicles, specifically Bobcats!
It was a 6" round and was completely edible!  Both the base and the Bobcat were chocolate cake covered in buttercream and fondant.

I was also asked to make mini cupcakes to co-ordinate with the cake.  Using the same colours, I used a simple swirl of buttercream accented with cookie crumb "dirt".  They were vanilla buttermilk cupcakes.  Love the colours, so bright and vibrant!

Recent Cupcakes!

Just playing with some leftover cupcakes and icing!  I went with the two toned icing in pink and white and decided to make a little flower that would pull out one of the colours in these liners - of course it had to be chartreuse, one of my favourite colours!

This rich blue is another favourite colour of mine, especially with the contrast of the white flowers and the silver liners

These were a vanilla buttermilk cupcake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing.
The silver beads and bit of shimmer are the finishing touch!

GoGo for Ben!

My eldest turned 10 this past weekend, which I'm still finding hard to believe!  He is very into"GoGo's Crazy Bones" and so a "GoGo's" themed party it was!
Ben is a very creative guy and part of planning the party was his own cake design!  He really wanted Mosh, the "GoGo" you see here, popping out of a gift. He was also very specific about having the fondant pulled back to look like he had broken through, as well as black fondant around Mosh's body to give the illusion of the box being dark inside...very well thought out kiddo!
I surprised Ben with the design of the box.  I really love how this cake matches my blog...not intentional, but still love it!  The base of this cake was a chocolate and oreo combination and Mosh was made of white cake.  It was completely edible and tasted delicious with plain old vanilla ice cream!
Just thought I'd add a photo of Mosh so that you can see what I'm talking about with these funny little characters!  Ben was quite happy with the likeness of the cake to the original!  Glad you liked it buddy...Happy Birthday again!!! xoxoxo

Nothing crazy, just cute!

It's a busy time of year for birthdays in the Dunn family and this weekend was no exception.  Jodi, another wonderful sister-in-law celebrated a birthday and so mini cupcakes and cake pops it was!
These mini white cupcakes with buttercream and fondant flowers are so cheery!  There is just something about polka dots that puts a smile on my face!  I used some red glitter (edible of course!) on the flowers to add that finishing touch...not too little, not too much!
As you may have guessed, Jodi is a fan of the red and black colour combination!  She also loves chocolate mint, so these chocolate mint cake pops with red glitter seemed like something that might make the birthday girl's day a little bit happier!

Hello Cake Pops!!!

My sister, party planner extraordinaire, has been "encouraging" me to try cake pops for quite a while.  She has made them and done a wonderful job, but I've just found myself too busy with all the cakemaking going on!  I'd already decided to give them a try this past weekend, and a family birthday became the perfect opportunity!  I can't believe how easy they were to make and how fun they were to decorate!  I already have my mind on some ideas for future cake pops, can't wait!!!

What Was I Thinking?!

These cupcakes were the first of several orders made in a weekend, which I fondly refer to as the "What was I thinking" weekend!
These were made for a 3rd birthday party!  They were half chocolate and half white, with buttercream icing, fondant accents and of course, a little shimmer...I was happy with the end result!
 next...

Space Shuttle cake for a special fan of the original in Florida!

This creation was chocolate with raspberry filling, covered in fondant.  The customer also requested a half slab chocolate with raspberry filling and chocolate buttercream, to serve the adults at the party!  I didn't take a picture of it, but add it to the tally!  And last, but not least.....

a very special baby shower cake for a friend who has been waiting a long time for her little man!  He'll be making his appearance next month and it was a wonderful experience celebrating with this very special couple, who is very loved by all who know them!

Playing Around with Ruffles!

I thought I'd try the ruffle technique I have previously used, but instead of vertical ruffles, I played around with horizontal ruffles.
I like it!

40th Birthday Cupcakes!

These were made for my wonderful sister-in-law's special day!  They are a vanilla cupcake with buttercream and I think they are my favourite cupcakes so far!  I love the liners, the colour combination, the simplicity of the single flower and the little bit of glitz added by brushing silver shimmer dust on the flower.  Simple but elegant, my favourite!  Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Carrie!!!

Giant Cupcake Cake!

This was a last minute order that I was happy to do for a first birthday party!  The request was for a cake that looked like a giant cupcake, in pastel green, pink and purple.  It was vanilla cake with buttercream filling and was covered in fondant.  Polka dots, flowers and the "1" on top are all made of fondant.  As with the hydrangea cake I recently made, I used multiple layers and then carved them to get the correct shape.  For this one, I used several 6" and 8" rounds.  This cake is made up of two parts and the top came off for easier cutting and serving.  I finished it off with a sprinkling of pink lustre dust to give it some shimmer!  I must say, first birthday cakes are always such fun!!!

Stripes and Swirls

Just a simple red velvet with a swirl of blue and white buttercream!

1st Birthday Cupcakes!

These chocolate cupcakes were made for the first birthday of a little cutie!  Based on the pictures of her eating them, she seemed to enjoy them!!!
I was happy to find these cupcake liners that are foil on the inside and keep their pattern on the outside, even after baked...that doesn't always happen!
