102...the new 90?

Although it truly is an honour to make each and every cake requested, this has to be the biggest honour yet!  My amazing and beautiful Grandmother just celebrated her 102nd birthday and this was her cake!
My very creative cousin planned this year's festivities and went with a lovely mauve and blue hydrangea theme.  She planned to make cupcakes that she had seen on the website http://www.glorioustreats.blogspot.com/ and asked that I make a cake to coordinate with the cupcakes.
The cake was completely edible.  I used buttercream for all decorations except the leaves and rim of the pot, which were made from fondant.  The "102" sign was made out of gumpaste.  This cake was huge and was made up of 5 10" layers of chocolate cake, with buttercream.
The cupcakes made by the talented party planner were also delicious and featured cream cheese icing on chocolate cupcakes...they were amazing!  I wonder what next year's theme will be!

Tea Time!

This cake was made for a princess themed tea party, for both adults and children!  I think the simple crown and gold accents were enough to tie in the princess theme!  This was a white cake with raspberry filling.  It is covered in buttercream with gumpaste and fondant accents.  I was initially going to use bowls to get the proper shape but decided to bake various sized rounds, then stacked and carved them, to get the shape I wanted.  Hope they had a jolly good time at the party!
