Birthday Boutique!

This incredibly girly cake was designed for a birthday girl who loves fashion and will be spending her summer modeling.  I was asked to make something that would reflect this, as well as her  love for animal prints and flowers!  As I've said before, I love it when I am given so much to work with yet am able to use my own imagination to create it!!!  This cake was completely chocolate, covered in buttercream and then fondant.  I have been wanting to try a gumpaste shoe and finally had the chance.  It turned out far better than I had imagined!  Hope you had a lovely birthday Joceline!!!

Shower for a Baby Girl...I can only imagine!

These adorable little cupcakes were made for a shower to welcome a little girl who is on the way!  The mother is all about the pink and so I was very happy to oblige!  The cupcakes were half chocolate, half vanilla buttermilk and all were covered with a swirl of vanilla buttercream.  I decided on a mixture of baby items, flowers and a simple letter "B" for baby!  All toppers were made out of
fondant and given a little something extra with a touch of pink shimmer...I use it whenever I get the chance!!!

Green Lantern!

This Green Lantern cake was made for 5 year old Kayden's birthday.  It is half chocolate, half vanilla and is decorated in buttercream only.  It was actually quite a bit more challenging than I had anticipated.  "Drawing" the image on the cake, filling in each area and getting a smooth finish were tricky, but it turned out just fine.  Most importantly, Kayden was happy with it, which is always the goal!!!  Hope your day was very happy Kayden!

Lovely Lemon!

Such a cheery little cupcake...like a bit of sunshine (that you get to eat)!  This was a lucious lemon with tangy lemon filling and a swirl of vanilla buttercream to top it off!  I've actually been craving these a little since I made them...guess I'd better make them again soon!!!

A Touch of Spring!

I LOVE these cupcakes!  They were for a family's Easter celebration and I think they're pretty darn adorable!  They were half chocolate, half vanilla buttermilk, all topped in buttercream.  The green cupcakes are topped with a Cadbury mini egg and some fondant flowers.  The baby blue birds are all buttercream.  I'm very happy with the colours, they were just what I'd pictured in my mind!  Hooray for spring, cupcakes, Cadbury mini eggs, and buttercream baby blue birds!!!

A Sunny 40th!

This was such a fun cake to do!  It was for a surprise 40th birthday party!  The birthday girl found out at her party that she would be going on a trip to Mexico the following week, so it was nice that the cake tied in with a trip to the sunny south!  When I was asked to make this cake, I was provided with several of Sheri's favourite things, which were all incorporated into the cake.  Aside from the beach, sun, sand and tiki hut, I was told that Sheri loves music and attending concerts.  I asked what her favourite concert was and was told ACDC!  Wow, how to incorporate that into a beach themed cake!  I decided on a beach towel, spread out in the sand outside the tiki hut!  I
heard that Sheri was quite pleased with it!  Sheri likes a good pina colada as well (who doesn't), so I determined that I would make the tiniest pina colada ever...and it worked!  A tiny coconut, filled with white icing and topped with a miniature umbrella!  Birds of Paradise are Sheri's favourite flower, so these were a feature of the cake!  What a bright and cheery way to celebrate such a special occasion!  Happy Birthday Sheri!

A Different Sort of Slab!

If you know me, you know that when it comes to cakes, I don't really do basic and I certainly don't do generic!  When it comes to slab cakes, I like to make them stand out a little and not be your standard rectangle with flowers piped around the corners (not that there's anything wrong with that, I've enjoyed many a slice of slab over the years)!!!
These are two recent slabs I did for farewell parties.  Both were for men so I wanted them to have a more masculine look.  The invitation for the party for the top cake featured a sillouette of a man giving a toast. I decided to incorporate that into the cake.  It was simple but I think the black sillouette really made it stand out!
This cake was also for a farewell party.  It was for someone moving up in their career which, if you hadn't guessed, took them to Stratford!  The invitation for this one featured red drapes, which I thought would really stand out.  I included the harlequin pattern around the sides to tie in the theatre theme!  Break a leg Larry!!!

Chic for London!

London's Mom contacted me about making a cake for London's 17th birthday.  As a side note, love the name!  I was sent a couple of pictures of cakes online and London decided on this one. The cake in the photo she sent was white, black and yellow.  I definitely like the hot pink for this cake, it gives it a lot more "wow"!  I also wasn't able to find or have the time to make the bling shooting out of the top of the cake.  I managed to find these cake charms at Michael's and love the way it turned out - girly and elegant!  Hope you had a lovely birthday London!

Birthday Monkeys!!!

This cute little cupcakes were made for Sophie's 3rd birthday!!!  Her Mom had seen these on Pinterest and thought that Sophie would really love them!  With some minor changes, they came together.  Thank goodness, the birthday girl approved!!  I love the colour combination!    The monkeys worked out well once I came up with a plan for how to make them.  Loving my funky letter and number cut-outs...wonder how I got by this long without them!

Hope you had a very Happy Birthday Sophie!!!

March Monsters!!!

This cute little fellow was made for one of the little monsters in my life!  My first nephew celebrated his first official birthday this year (he was born on Leap Year)!  My sister hosted a monster themed party and requested a cake to go along with it.  Her only request was that the cake have horns and the birthday boy's only request was that it be blue.  I love it when I am given some ideas but also have free reign to use my imagination!  This cake was chocolate with buttercream and some fondant accents to finish it off!  Happy Birthday Keaton!!!
Simon's grandma asked that I make a Cookie Monster cake for his 3rd birthday!  This cake was done primarily in buttercream with fondant accents.  Although I would have loved to have made the little cookies myself, time was a factor and so these were store bought.  They still have the right effect I suppose!  I was glad to hear that Simon liked his cake...Happy Birthday!!!
