Happy Birthday Cohen!!!

Once again I had the priviledge of making my nephew's birthday cake!  The little man and his parents live far enough away that we only get to see them a couple of times a year, so getting to make his birthday cake is quite special!  Cohen loves elephants and my sister (his mother) loves the turquoise and red colour combination, this being the resulting cake!  Cohen's Mommy had emailed the image below with the hopes that I could make it into a cake.
I was happy that it all worked out for the birthday boy and his mother.  I know she is trying to take advantage of the first few birthdays where she has control over the choice of cake!  The cake was a chocolate with raspberry filling, covered in buttercream and finished in fondant.  Cohen enjoyed part of the balloon, which was a miniature chocolate cake!
The cuteness of this cake just screamed for some polka dots, so polka dot ribbon around the cake board was the finishing touch!  Happy birthday Coey Bear, love you heaps! xoxoxo

Peanut Butter + Chocolate = Love!!!

If you know me, you know that one of my favourite things in the whole world is peanut butter cups!!!  For my husband's recent birthday, I decided to make him something I would really love...wasn't that sweet of me?!
This was a bit of an experiment...I made chocolate cupcakes and put a mini peanut butter cup in the centre of each one before baking.  The cupcakes were topped with an amazing peanut butter icing (that I had to keep very far away from) and finished off with a half a mini peanut butter cup on top!
It was a successful experiment.  Biting into the cupcake to discover the partially melted treasure inside was worth every single calorie!!!

Christmas Cupcakes!

Cheery little snowmen and festive Christmas tree cupcakes were made for a special family's Christmas gathering!  They were a vanilla cupcake with raspberry filling, topped with buttercream snowmen and trees with fondant accents!
I liked these so much, I decided to make some more for my own special little family!  They didn't get the raspberry filling, but they were o.k. with that!  Polka dot liners...
 ...so jolly!!!

Mad Hatter Tea Party

Back in the fall I was asked to make cupcakes to go with a Mad Hatter themed tea party.  Mai Memories Photography took the beautiful photos on a lovely fall day!  I decided to go with a vanilla
buttermilk cupcake
topped with a basic buttercream.  My focus went into making the various fondant decorations for the cupcakes.  These included a mad hatter hat, hearts, toadstools, teacup, clock and enormous Cheshire Cat smile!  Small fondant flowers to match the bright colour theme were also used as accents. I loved making these cupcakes and was thrilled with the photos taken my Mai!  The adorable models wore fashions by Sassy Bug Boutique.  The feather headpieces and petticoat skirts that Kyle of Sassy Bug put together, were perfect for the funky tea party in the woods!
