Tinkerbell!!!

 When I was asked to make a Tinkerbell cake for a lovely friend's beautiful daughter, I was so excited and bursting with ideas!  Peter Pan was the first movie I ever saw at the theatre way back when, so anything associated with it holds a special place for me!  This was actually a three tier, as the flower that Tink is sitting in is a jumbo cupcake!  The cake is iced in buttercream and all accents are fondant.  As I've commented before, I like to be a "purist"  in my cake making and to have everything edible.  On occasion, however, it's necessary to bend the rules a little for the sake of the cake!  I tossed around the idea of making a little Tink out of fondant or gumpaste but really didn't think I would do her justice.  I found this Tink candle which worked perfectly to top off the cake!!! 

It doesn't really show in these pictures but I covered the cake in a light dusting of "Pixie dust" (edible glitter).  That was the finishing touch!!! 

Hydrangea Cupcakes for a Special Retirement!!

 I recently had the honour of helping to plan and organize a retirement party for a very special friend and colleague.  It was decided that the party would be classy and elegant but not overdone.  Black linens, silver serving dishes and hints of soft green were used to create the atmosphere we were going for.  Hydrangeas were a theme of the party and cupcakes that went along with the theme were chosen as the sweet!  I really like how each cupcake is so unique!  The party was a success and the guest of honour was thrilled, which was all that mattered in the end!

Clothesline for Twins!!

This sweet little number was made for wonderful friends who recently welcomed twins into their life!  They were blessed with a boy and a girl, both as cute as a button! 

I decided on a clothesline with pink and blue baby clothes, blankets, socks and bibs hanging from it, it just seemed adorable!  The blue onsie with the bird is my favourite part of this one! The cake is half chocolate with cookies and cream filling and half vanilla buttermilk cake with raspberry filling.  It's covered in buttercream with fondant accents and funky fondant lettering making up the greeting on the top.  Once again, I loved making this one and was happy to be celebrating with the lovely little family! xoxoxo

Frills for Mom!

This year marked a milestone birthday for my Mom and so it was celebrated with one of her favourite things...chocolate!  A chocolate buffet was featured at her party and this cake was featured on the buffet table!  Surprisingly, this cake is not all chocolate!  The bottom tier is chocolate with chocolate buttercream filling, while the top is lemon with raspberry filling.  I've been wanting to try this frill technique for awhile and thought Mom's birthday party would be as good a time as any to experiment!  Since the colour theme of the party was pink and black, it made sense to do the cake in graduated shades of pink.  It was topped with a simple black flower!

M.I.C.K.E.Y...M.O.U.S.E.!!!

 This was another cake which I was completely honoured to make!  A very special little fellow was celebrating his very first birthday and Mickey Mouse was the winner for choice of cake!!!  I found a clip art image of Mickey and used it as a stencil to hand cut the image out of fondant for the cake.

 I then added fondant letters with the birthday greeting, a fondant #1 and black and red fondant ball trim to finish it off!  The cake was half cookies and cream and half chocolate!

Luau!!!

Wow, it's been far too long since I've posted anything; life's been a bit on the crazy side but it's time to bring this blog up to date!  This cake was made back in June for 10 year old Laura's Luau themed birthday party.  It was a fun little one to make, with it's vibrantly coloured flowers and cute little flip flops!  What a great way to kick off summer!!!
